Cross or Torture Stake?

Jehovah's Witnesses teach that Jesus did not die on a cross, but on a stake. They claim the Greek word stauros means "a stake," which was a single upright stake without a crossbeam and Jesus' hands were nailed over his head with one nail.

Thomas would not believe that Jesus was resurrected and said, "Unless I shall see in His hands the imprint of the nails…" (John 20:25). ["nails" not "nail"] A crossbeam requires two nails (one for each hand), while a stake only requires one. Jesus carried a crossbeam, which was placed on an upright pole, making a cross. Although this is not an important issue, it is another example how the Watchtower organization is leading people away from the cross.
