Pregnant but Not Married

What's a woman to do if she's pregnant, but not married? If that has happened to you, don't panic. Panicking will cause you to make the wrong decision. If you want Biblical counsel, here are some things to consider.

Abortion is NOT an option.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Abortion is taking a human life. The Lord hates the hands that shed innocent blood (Proverbs 6:17, Psalm 106:37-38). God loves your baby and has a plan for it.

Living together unmarried is NOT an option.

Options to Consider

Give your baby up for adoption.

If you feel you don't want the child, giving your baby up for adoption might be your best option. Many married couples who can't have children have been praying for a child to adopt. Your willingness to give your child up for adoption will be an answered prayer for a couple waiting to adopt.

Don't marry the child's father, but raise the child as a single mother.

Some couples marry just to "save face." This is not a good reason to marry. Neither is getting married for financial reasons. The same principles apply to choosing the right mate as if you weren't pregnant. Is he a Christian? Is he willing to make a commitment to be married for life? Will he accept the responsibilities of husband and father? If the answer to any of those questions is no, then you will have more problems if you marry than if you remained single.

Marry the child's father and raise the child together.

Just because you are pregnant does not mean you are obligated to marry the child's father. However, if the above questions are answered yes, then marriage is certainly an option to consider.

God's Guidance

When we don't know what to do, God always knows what to do. The following verses show that God wants to help you make the right decision:

Psalm 50:15-"Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me."

Jeremiah 33:3-"Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know."

James 1:5--But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
